SUMMARY:City Budget Advocacy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Speaking at City Council can feel intimidating\, but it's one of the most direct ways to shape the decisions that affect your business.Edmonton's next municipal budget is critical to putting the city on the right economic path for the next four years\, and the Edmonton Chamber is offering a workshop to help you have your say. On November 10\, join us at the World Trade Centre for a morning of training on how to make sure your voice is heard at City Hall. In September\, the Chamber released Back on Track Budget: Edmonton Chamber's Business Budget. Our intention was simple: be a voice for the city's business community on what matters to them in the city budget\, and give City Council something to reference as it makes tough economic choices. But the work doesn't stop at releasing our own budget. Now it's about showing up and following up on the suggestions we made\, and we're offering members the chance to learn how to do the same. This workshop is free for members and will walk you through the steps to make your voice heard at City Council\, including how to sign up as a speaker\, how to prepare\, what to expect on the day you speak\, and how to talk to the media afterward. Schedule: 9:00 10:00 a.m. How to speak at City Hall session hosted by Aileen Giesbrecht\, former City Clerk10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. How to speak to media hosted by Edmonton Chamber of CommerceSpeaking in public can be daunting\, but knowing the process helps. Spend a morning with the Chamber\, and you'll leave with the information you need to speak comfortably at City Hall about the issues that matter to you.
