Over forty influential Edmonton Chamber members signed an historic memorandum in Dec 2023 to end homelessness. Known as the Rogers Place Declaration to End the Housing Affordability Crisis, signatories included Member representatives from the Oilers Entertainment Group, Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation and TrustBIX (TSX V: TBIX).
Led by Alberta's homelessness and affordable housing expert Murray Soroka, the founder of Jasper Place Wellness Centre has worked tirelessly to move thousands of disadvantaged Edmontonians off the streets and into housing. His current housing model includes achievable targets, but requires multiple sectors, including Edmonton business to engage in meaningful planning, co-operation and most importantly, concrete action.
The Chamber will host and facilitate this Feb. 8 discussion about what tangible solutions the business community can offer and implement to help Edmonton’s unhoused population, those who don’t have a place to call home. Attendees should expect to come prepared to bring ideas forward, ask questions that contribute to the discussion, increase their own awareness on this issue, discuss and propose solutions, and lead the implementation of any number of proposed solutions. The goal of the meeting is to have specific calls to action the business community can contribute to and implement.
Speakers will include Murray Soroka, Bridge Healing creator Dr. Louis Francescutti, Edmonton Chamber of Commerce President. Edmonton Chamber of Commerce CEO Doug Griffiths will moderate the event.
Thank you to Delta Edmonton Centre Suites Hotel for generously providing the meeting facility, to supporting sponsor Edmonton Destination Marketing Hotels Ltd. and to Lasse Joergensen's All-In Productions for covering the event.
The housing emergency crisis affects us all. Edmonton's business community has the talent and resources to work together on this important issue.
