All funds raised will go to support the Stollery Children's Hospital Pediatric Cardiology Transplant Family Camp. Please allow us to tell you about an amazing initiative to support families of children who needed a heart transplantation to help them find back to normalcy and happiness while learning how to best manage their affected child but also their family well-being. Between 10 and 15 children receive a heart transplantation in Edmonton every year, coming from all western and northern Canada, spread over an area of about half of the USA leaving limited possibility for interaction between affected families. These families have faced very difficult times with their children facing prolonged hospital stays, often on mechanical cardiac and respiratory support while being threatened by imminent death. Accordingly, they may feel isolated, traumatized and greatly benefit from peer support, specific teaching and discussion forums and informal interaction with their medical teams and patients having been through pediatric transplantation and being adults now. In 2010 we have developed and realized the idea of offering a camp for the transplanted kids, their parents and siblings and have since offered this every year. Following two years of virtual transplant camp during pandemic restrictions, we were able to offer in-person camps again in 2022 as well as 2023, which was much appreciated by the families as reflected in glowing feedback provided. This camp has been held as a joint event of the teams in Edmonton and Calgary with support and participation of children from all western Canadian provinces. Thanks to generous support from charitable organizations, industry and private donors we have been able to offer this free of actual charge to the families and organize travel from Edmonton and Calgary and support the travel for selected families from the neighboring provinces. Thank you for your amazing support and allowing us to continue making a difference in these families lives.
