For the foreseeable future, COVID-19 has changed everything about how businesses must operate. With updates coming out on a daily basis, it can feel overwhelming to stay on top of your obligations as an employer.

Join us as Lori Brienza, partner, and Wilson Chan, associate, lawyers at Mathews Dinsdale summarize what you need to consider while operating a business during the COVID-19 pandemic, including changes to Employment Standards legislation, potential privacy and human rights concerns, and work site safety requirements. More about Lori:

Lori works with clients in a variety of sectors to achieve practical workplace solutions and manage risk. In doing so, she provides advice to employers on all aspects of the workplace relationship including recruitment, hiring, discipline, dismissals, disability management, health
and safety, workers’ compensation, grievances and other labour relations matters.

Lori strives to achieve efficient and cost-effective solutions through alternative dispute resolution. Where matters cannot otherwise resolve, Lori is a zealous advocate for clients
before the Courts, arbitrators and administrative tribunals.
Lori also regularly assists clients on business immigration matters, including obtaining labour market impact assessments, work permits, Canadian permanent resident status and citizenship.

Lori is a frequent speaker at industry and client events. She the Chair of the Canadian Bar Association Labour & Employment Section (Alberta South) and Vice-Chair / Past Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section (Alberta South). She has been a mentor and volunteer advisor with Student Legal Assistance, University of Calgary for several years.

Lori also previously served as an appointed Public Member on the Board of Directors of the Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (AMVIC).

More about Wilson:

Wilson is an experienced litigator who has focused his practice on all aspects of the employee/employer relationship. This includes conducting workplace investigations, advising employers on workplace law and representing companies in wrongful dismissal claims, workers’ compensation and OH&S matters, labour board and grievance arbitrations and human rights and privacy complaints.

Wilson is experienced in trial, appellate and arbitral work and has successfully appeared before the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, and a number of quasijudicial bodies.
