The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce ("the Chamber") is committed to safeguarding the privacy of all visitors to our site. Please read the following privacy policy to understand how the Chamber uses and protects the information you provide to us.

Protecting the personal, private, and confidential information of Chamber members and visitors—whether obtained electronically, over the phone, or through our offices—is a core principle and an integral part of our business operations. As such, The Chamber operates under a comprehensive Privacy Policy that guides the handling of any personal information The Chamber collects. The Chamber has developed this policy to demonstrate and communicate our firm commitment to protecting the privacy of our members, partners, and potential site visitors. This policy aligns with the Canadian Standards Association Model Code for the Protection of Personal Information (herein referred to as the “CSA Model Code”) and applicable privacy legislation. 

The Chamber reserves the right to amend this policy, and it may be updated periodically. These changes may affect our use of your personal information. The Chamber encourages you to check for updates regularly.

This policy specifically addresses personal information managed by the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. Personal information refers to data about an identifiable individual, excluding business contact information. The following sections explain how The Chamber handles your personal information.

The purposes for which the Chamber collects personal information will be identified at or before the time the information is collected. The Chamber may collect personal information for the following purposes:

As required by law, The Chamber will not use your personal information for any purpose other than that for which you have consented. Should The Chamber require personal information for a new purpose, The Chamber will contact you to seek consent for that new use. 

Limits for Collecting, Using, Disclosing, and Keeping Personal Information 

The Chamber does not collect, use, or disclose personal information of individuals except when you provide consent (explicit or implied) and provide the information voluntarily. There may be occasions where more specific personal information is necessary for us to fulfill a request for information or provide you with a product or service. In such cases, The Chamber will provide you with a description of the information The Chamber need. In all instances, the Chamber limits the amount and type of information collected to only that which is required to provide you with the requested information, product, or service. The Chamber collects only information voluntarily provided by you and undertakes that such information will be kept confidential. 

Retention Period: The Chamber retains personal information only as long as necessary to provide you with a requested product, service, or information, and for the purposes of current and future membership renewals. After this period, The Chamber delete or destroy the information as appropriate. For instance, personal information provided for membership renewal or event registration will be used solely for said renewal or registration and will be deleted or destroyed as required and appropriate to the circumstances. Generally, information for these purposes will only be retained for two (2) years. 

Legal Obligations: In some cases, legal reporting and retention requirements may require us to retain information for a specified period. Under these limited circumstances, privacy-protected information will only be retained for the period required by law. 

Third-Party Disclosure: The Chamber will not sell or trade any personal information with third parties. Disclosures of information will be made in circumstances where the Chamber has entered into a contractual arrangement with a third party, and the purpose of that contract is the provision of a product, service, or benefit. In such circumstances, information disclosure will be limited to information necessary for the contracted benefit or service. The Chamber may transfer information to service providers where information processing is outsourced during certain administrative or contractual procedures or member services. Where personal information is transferred to a service provider for processing, The Chamber require that provider to respect this Privacy Policy and restrict them from using or disclosing personal information transferred to them for any purpose other than providing services to us. 

Any personal information the Chamber keeps is stored to ensure its security and confidentiality at all times.

The Chamber respects the privacy of our members, partners, site visitors, and internet users and will protect that privacy as vigorously as possible. The Chamber store personal information in secure electronic and physical files.
