About Us

The Alberta Ballet is a Not For Profit Organization for the Performing Arts. Founded in 1966 by Ruth Carse and Muriel Taylor, Alberta Ballet is one of Canada’s foremost dance companies, captivating over 70,000 audience members annually with performances at the Jubilee Auditoria in Calgary and Edmonton. The company is celebrated for its dynamic repertoire, blending beloved classical works with bold new creations that push the art form forward.
Integral to Alberta Ballet’s success is the Alberta Ballet School, is official training division, which nurtures young talent from around the world.
Approximately 40% of the company’s dancers are alumni of this esteemed institution, reflecting its deep commitment to excellence in dance education. Beyond the stage, Alberta Ballet is dedicated to community engagement through initiatives like the Welcoming Newcomers Program and Ballet x Powwow, striving to make dance accessible and inclusive for all Albertans.
In January 2024, Alberta Ballet welcomed Francesco Ventriglia as its Artistic Director. A distinguished Italian choreographer and former soloist with La Scala Ballet, Ventriglia brings a wealth of international experience, having led companies such as the Royal New Zealand Ballet and Maggio Danza in Florence. His vision for Alberta Ballet emphasizes a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, honoring classical ballet’s rich heritage while introducing fresh, contemporary narratives.
