Karen Jensen, P.Eng., MBA
Business Development Lead for CN
Karen Jensen got her start in the transportation sector long before she ever decided to be an engineer. Growing up on the family grain farm outside of Westlock, Karen and her sister were expected to help with the harvest the same as her four older brothers. Anything her brothers could do, Karen had to do the same. In fact, Karen was driving the large grain truck to the local grain elevator and back to farm when she was 16 years old. And during that summer, her oldest brother a mechanical engineer himself, suggested Karen might want to think about the profession in engineering, she listened. Karen obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta and went on to work at the TransAlta Sundance & Wabamun power plants as a Project Engineer and an Engineering Consultant. She was the only female engineer at the power plant back in those days. She then spent five years with EPCOR Water and managed business development contracts for the operation of municipal water treatment plants across Alberta. And for the last 15+ years Karen has worked as a Manager of Business Development for Canadian National Railway in Western Canada with a large focus on the Alberta region. This is where she has had the most fun and enjoyment working in the transportation sector.
Today, Karen has more than 30 years of experience in transportation, supply chain logistics, engineering, construction, business management, marketing, and operations across a variety of industries and projects.
