Associations, Charities, and Non-profits Associations, Charities, and Non-profits Community Organizations
Since 1975, the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE) has been a trusted community institution supporting individuals affected by sexual violence and advancing prevention through education and partnership. As a not-for-profit charitable organization, SACE provides no-fee, trauma-informed support to children, youth, adults, and families — helping people rebuild safety, wellness, and participation in community and work life.
Sexual violence remains a pressing issue in Alberta, with 45% of Albertans reporting they have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime — 2 in 3 women and 1 in 3 men. This reality underscores the urgent need for both responsive services and preventive education in workplaces, schools, and community organizations.
SACE professional services include confidential counselling, crisis support, police and court accompaniment, and advocacy tailored to the unique needs of survivors. These services are delivered by clinicians trained in evidence-informed, culturally sensitive care, ensuring that individuals receive respectful, person-centred support at critical moments.
Beyond direct support, SACE is a leading provider of public education and training, focusing on consent, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, and trauma-informed responses. SACE collaborates with businesses, post-secondary institutions, youth organizations, and community groups to enhance prevention capacity, mitigate risk, and foster safer environments. These programs not only foster respectful workplace cultures but also help employers and leaders fulfil their commitment to safety and wellbeing.
As Edmonton grows and diversifies, SACE remains committed to innovation and collaboration — building a community where sexual violence is prevented, survivors are empowered, and organizations are equipped to respond effectively. With a legacy rooted in care and a future shaped by partnership, SACE plays a critical role in supporting a safer, more inclusive Edmonton for everyone.
